Response to "This Time, Colin Kaepernick Takes a Stand by Kneeling"

In my partner, Kierra Albert’s New York Times article by Billy Witz, the article speaks on Colin Kaepernick’s reason behind kneeling. Colin Kaepernick, the 6’4’’, 230 pound Quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers took a knee along with his teammate Eric Reid decided to take a knee on during the National Anthem for their team’s final exhibition game. Kaepernick later announced that he would donate $11.9 million dollars to a charitable organization. On this night of his kneel, this just so happened to be ‘Salute the Military Night. Kaepernick got so much hate for kneeling during the National Anthem. Being that Colin Kaepernick took a “knee” for what he believes in, Staff Sergeant Jonathan Felix Stated, “ I understand his message… There has been a lot of obsession in the world and he’s fighting for people just they way i have been…” The Staff Sergeant also stated that ‘... so many people are against him when he’s fighting by taking a stand.” This article basically Stated the hate and reasoning behind Colin Kaepernick “Knee for Justice”.

Furthermore, in my opinion, I feel as if Billy Witz could have further explained the the event. There were many blanks left in the article that needed to be filled with the proper information. There were many ‘Why’ questions that could have been answered, like; Why was Colin Kaepernick the only ‘BOOED’ player?, Why is freedom of speech a double standard? I feel like in this article, Mr. Witz could have elaborated a bit more in his article. Other than those few details, the article really had the opportunity to open people’s eyes about how serious the situation of Justice is.
