LOW BLOW

Low Blow

"Library Visit, Then Held at Gunpoint" by Charles M. Blow, stood out to me practically because, for one it was interesting. The story kept me on my toes, you are trying to piece the whole article together. Seeing and asking questions of why did this happen? Or, did he do it? What is really going on? The question that I tend to ask myself was, if the son is attending Yale and people who attend Yale are portrayed as the "good" "innocent" students, why would someone from there be a suspect to a crime?
It was interesting to read and figure everything, my questioned got answered regarding Yale students and how they are seen by society. Charles Blow the father of the son who got accused stated "… he's a third-year student at Yale. He had been accosted by a campus police officer, at gunpoint!" Which that already sets the tone for how the story plays out. When reading the story; you find out that Blows' son has simply been accused by identification from police, so an officer stops him and pulls a gun out. At first you think who goes in the library this late? Blows' son is lying. Although in all honesty even if Charles pulled the "Yale" card the son was really innocent, he was just being lazy, just got out of class, maybe even just woke up and decided to go to the library and see if his book was ready and be a proactive student.
For anyone who likes suspense or feels as if the world is getting out of control, you might even like politics, "Library Visit, Then Held at Gunpoint" just might spark your interest. It covers a lot, especially with the police all over the news with their abuse, assumptions that lead to harm, or pulling guns out for no reason just because they felt the need to. In this article it does
not just tell a story, it is simply helping at the same time by trying to bring awareness to false accusations and highlight the importance of police brutality and trying to correct the situations.

  2. I enjoyed this written article because it stays on topic and explains detail on how the article explains who was innocent and who was guilty. it expresses this very vaguely and your essay pulled out key points that shows who is in fault and why they could be to blame.

  3. Kiarra, I really enjoyed reading your response to Charles M. Blow article. I am trouble also, by numerous unanswered questions when reading Charles Blow, "Library Visit, Then Held at Gunpoint". My first thought "was the first responding Yale officer justifiable in retreating to his weapon? Was the suspect armed with a weapon and a threat to the public? Is that why the Yale office approached Charles Blow son with such action? One may never now, because the facts are simply not stated in his article. I couldn't agree with you more Kiarra, more awareness should be brought to light concerning the many issues Charles Blow son encountered that terrifying night. Great work!
