Sneak Peak into My Life
My name is Kiarra Majaé McDaniel, I am the child of Michael McDaniel and Jennifer Burdette, I am the oldest of two siblings named Malaya and Mycka, we are a biracial family and I honestly love being a mut. Yes, I said a mut; meaning mixed, not just one “breed” but in this case it would be race. Most people see me and think “ Oh she is black” no, no, sweetie I refuse and would never call myself black and no, I am not saying it as I am embarrassed or ashamed, I say that for the reasoning of I want to be called what I am, not what society sees me as. So that would be black and white, white and black, mixed, biracial or a person, that would work also.
“Where are you from?” the beautiful city of Houston, Texas “H-town” ‘H-tine hol’ it down”. No offense to other places, but I love Houston to death. It might not be the best place on earth, but the diversity and culture and the love that houstonians have is wonderful. No, I was not technically raised there my whole life up until now, I was born and lived in the city for about six years and for the rest of my life I was raised in Missouri City, Texas “Mo City” “The Mo”, a very nice suburb outside of Houston. My whole life is there, I had very interesting things happen in my life, very intriguing people that I met and became friends with, ex-friends and so on…
“Where are you going in life?” all I can say is that Kiarra McDaniel plans ahead. Every single thing that I could think of I have planned automatically, my future career I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer/stylist since I was three years old, every single detail for college was planned out by junior year. Getting into my dream school in New York (the number one fashion design school), taking a fashion design class, getting all prepared for life until the summer of 2016 I realized no; I do not want to be a fashion designer, I want to become a physical therapist. All my life being called a “Doctor” was a goal of mine but, I never knew how that would work out with fashion and all... so I figured it out. In the summer of 2013 I ended up tearing my meniscus (second worse thing you could tear). That following year I got surgery and from there having to experience physical therapy, and having such an amazing therapist it sparked my interest and that is when I realized, yeah change of plans. You might not believe me, but I have the rest of my college career planned out now, as a very determined and hard worker, I am and will make sure that I will be known as one of the best in business. Very ambitious not only for my success and money but, more so I want to make my family proud I am technically the first one to really go to college. The pressure and expectations set for me are so high it is ridiculous, so my refusal for screwing it up is not an option.
People ask what or who molded me into the human I am today, there is no way that it could be discussed to the full extent. Just know that Michael and Jennifer created and raised a very bright child. While I have learned and seen things indescribable to explain, these moments and memories are what made my morals and goals possible. My determination to fulfill my dreams are remarkably high, while my morals are keeping me grounded and level headed in order to succeed in life right now.
I also wanted to be a physical therapist growing up. I would tell everyone that I wanted to be a PT to help people, but senior year I realized I did not want to be a PT anymore...I wanted to be a 2nd grade teacher.

ReplyDeleteI'm with Matisse. I liked the "mutt" part. Good perspective. In our current society, we need to hear and engage with open, confident perspectives such as yours, Kiarra. Thanks for that.
